RVs and WiFi

One of the more interesting trends in the RV world is the development of wireless 'hot zones' which allow internet access without the need for phone lines or cable hookups. The technology that allows this to happen has been collectively referred to as WiFi (short for 'wireless fidelity'). Providing the dependability and cost for this technology continues to develop on its current trend, this presents some exciting opportunities for RVers.

RV Camping and WiFiWireless clearly appears to be the trend for the future, and given the needs of the RVer on the road, going wireless offers great convenience. Having a laptop with wireless capabilities means that wherever you can find a wireless connection, or ‘hotspot’, you can connect to the Internet and continue working as you would do normally.

Hotspots are popping up all over the place. If you have been to a Starbucks and noticed everyone clicking away at their laptops while enjoying their double latte, you have witnessed the convenience of a wireless network. Many hotels and airports now offer hotspots. The same concept now applies to RV parks.

Imagine pulling into your spot at a new park and once you have everything hooked up, you decide to plan out your stay by checking the Internet for local points of interest or a game of golf, as well as checking your e-mails. If this park offers wireless connections (or ‘WiFi’, short for wireless fidelity), you would simply fire up your laptop, open up your browser, enter the password the park gave you at check-in for their WiFi network, and you are connected. It wouldn’t matter if you were inside your RV, on the table outside your RV, at the clubhouse, or sitting by the pool. This convenience is the allure of WiFi.

Though most parks are not there yet, more and more are realizing that the cost of installing WiFi isn’t as great as they may have feared. In addition, this is an amenity that is quickly becoming as important as any other park feature. For a directory of hotspots, view this WiFi hotspot directory.

Using the internet for email, digital photography, shopping, banking, and even using the internet for telephone calls becomes easier and more convenient using the much faster WiFi connections.
